No parrots injured in coach crash

by loiswakeman @ 04 Jan. 2007 - 18:00:04

Please forgive me commenting on a tangential aspect of what was a horrible road accident on the M25/M4 interchange yesterday.

I was watching the BBC local news (Spotlight) at lunchtime, and was surprised to see that their top news item was that the bus involved in the crash had been built at Plymouth. That wouldn't be so bad if they'd left it there, but it gave the reporters a chance to pore over footage of the aftermath and speculate pointlessly about the causes.

I found the item both pathetic in its wish to pose as an important component of the story, and distasteful in its ghoulishness.

That is so typical of much present day media reporting. They want instant details and answers, which if they don't get they then speculate. I suppose it's all to do with the 24 hour blanket coverage they now give us.

I always feel a twinge of annoyance when they report on an incident abroad and insist on telling us how many Brit's were affected as if nobody else mattered. I'm sure the relatives wouldn't even want to find out via the media so why do they do it?

Media as we mostly receive it and see it,is a horrible business. It feeds on the base instincts of the human race and manipulates the thinking processess of those less able to critically evaluate for themselves. Ugh.

I have to concur with GB's comment;it is a point I regularly comment upon myself.

Just a point tangential to your own well made one that we didn't need to know lois, do we need to know now - rather than then, because then was an abuse. and now is an expose of an abuse, or is now more important than then because we have had time to reflect on it?

,, Don't worry about a word I say ;)
