Thanks Lois.... the funny thing is that even with all the weight loss I don't really look any different and my health problems are basically still there. I've had a 'part diagnosis' and am just waiting (maybe that should be 'weighting'???? ;))for a few more results.

Then they'll say there's nothing they can do! :roll:

I had to read that twice Mrs P: to the sounds of the signature tune from "Are you being served", I was thinking of you going up from 60 pounds, then I remembered you saying you'd aready gone down 50, so that made sense!

I am glad it's still working so well for you - but how are you apart from that, with all the mystery problems you were having?

I didn't mention 'Hell's bells and buckets of blood', a useful expression of extreme irritation. I recently heard Rob Bryden use this expression so it may actually be common useage is south Wales, but in Lincolnshire it seems to be unique to my sister and myself.

When I was a child a dressing-gown was a duff, and a poo was 'hardwork'. The latter is now obselete, but both derivations are easy enough. People who are a bit too 'up front' about their good works are 'uprighteous'.

'See amid the winter's snow' is the 'school dinner carol': "See the tender lamb appears / Promised from eternal years".

David Lodge can be very funny. I enjoyed his 'How far can you go' book some years ago. There is great similarity in the little of this next book I have so far read. I am rather glad I did not choose to read him again too quickly.

No - the only book wot I wrote was a technical one of extreme complexity and dullness, and I guess that Prentice Hall thought I'd be unlikely to go over the lines!
